As mentioned earlier, before we jump into the Cloud, we need to clearly understand the concept of Storage. Storage is actually a Centrally placed Box, mostly in the data-center room, along with other servers and crucial equipment. In most of the companies individual HDDs are no used in each computer, but a centralized Storage Box is used and all the Users are given some Space as per their requirement and they get access to it over the internal network or even over the internet for large distances. Such a storage is called a Shared Storage. Before we go further we need to understand the type of DATA and it's access methods as per requirement: FILE Level Access and BLOCK Level Access.
Data is the most important component in all organizations. A shared storage offers several advantages over the personalized storage system :
- Ensures integrity of data at a central space.
- More control in the hands of the data-center manager.
- Lesser control in the hands of the End-User, this ensures that Data is safe and secure.
- Read and Write control on data is controlled.
- It becomes much more easy to take Backups.
- RAID functionality is easier to obtain with a shared storage.
- Snapshot taking and restoration is easier.
